They clearly need a lot, a lot of practice, in addition to studying very well how they play soccer so well in South America, because in order to be at least in the first places in the cup, they must play at the same level.

I think competing in the Copa Libertadores should absolutely be a long-term goal for MLS. It would raise the league's profile, expose teams to higher competition levels, and strengthen their international reputation. To succeed, MLS clubs would need to invest in deeper rosters, improve their youth development programs, and adapt to the intense playing styles of South American teams.

The Copa Libertadores, with its passionate crowds, intense rivalries, and high-level play, serves as a powerful aspirational model for US Soccer. It showcases the pinnacle of club competition in South America, inspiring MLS clubs and players to strive for that level of continental dominance. While the gap remains significant, the Libertadores provides a valuable benchmark and a tangible goal for the continued growth and evolution of the North American game.

Competing in the Copa Libertadores should be a long-term goal for MLS. It would elevate the league's international profile and improve its competitiveness. For success, MLS clubs must enhance their squad depth, attract higher-caliber players, and improve tactical sophistication. Consistent exposure to top South American clubs is key to progress.

If MLS teams were to join Copa Libertadores, it would elevate U.S. soccer by providing higher-level competition against South American clubs. Exposure to intense, skillful play would accelerate player development and increase MLS credibility. While logistical challenges exist, participation could bridge the gap between MLS and top international leagues.
