Having a team captain can provide leadership and unity, helping guide players both on and off the field. While some teams thrive with natural leaders, a designated captain can create clear direction. My favorite MLB captain is Derek Jeter—his leadership, on-field performance, and ability to handle pressure were unmatched.

I'd also point out that the captain in hockey has an actual role in the sense that he has to communicate with the officials. In baseball, most of that is just handled by the manager
