The DH Debate: Universal or Not?

Post by Roman »

The designated hitter rule is still a hot topic in baseball. Do you prefer watching pitchers hit in the National League, or do you favor the offensive boost the DH provides? Should MLB adopt a universal DH?

Proponents of the universal DH, which would implement the rule in both the American League and National League, argue that it creates more offense and prolongs the careers of older players by allowing them to focus solely on hitting. The 2020 season, due to the pandemic, saw a temporary universal DH, which many believed added excitement and increased scoring. On the other hand, traditionalists advocate for keeping the pitcher’s batting in the National League, viewing it as a strategic element that requires more managerial decision-making and showcases the multi-dimensional nature of players.

I think DH adds more excitement by boosting offense, which modern fans often enjoy. Given the increase in offensive talent across the league, adopting a universal DH seems like the right move for consistency and to protect pitchers from unnecessary risks at the plate. It balances the game’s evolution while keeping it entertaining.
