The Art of the Double Play
The Art of the Double Play
Turning a double play is one of the most skillful and exciting defensive plays in baseball. Do you have a favorite double play combination in MLB history? What do you think makes a great infield duo?
Re: The Art of the Double Play
I love watching how the defense works in sync, often with a smooth transition from the shortstop to the second baseman and then to first base. A well-executed double play can shift the momentum of the game, halting rallies and protecting leads. Players like Ozzie Smith and Derek Jeter made double plays look effortless, but it takes incredible hand-eye coordination, timing, and chemistry between infielders.
Re: The Art of the Double Play
I love watching double plays that involve athleticism, like those where the shortstop or second baseman dives to snag a line drive and quickly flips to second for the out. The timing and execution of these plays is what makes them so exciting. Players like Jeter, Ozzie Smith, and the 2000s-era Cardinals' duo of Edgar Rentería and Fernando Vina come to mind as some of the best at making these plays look effortless.
