Baseball’s Most Memorable Rain Delays

Post by Roman »

Rain delays can bring unexpected entertainment, from tarp sliding to impromptu fan interactions. Do you have a favorite rain delay story or memory? How do you think teams should handle long delays to keep fans engaged?

One memorable recent delay occurred during the 2020 World Series, when Game 4 between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Tampa Bay Rays was delayed by rain at Globe Life Field in Arlington. The delay led to a rare opportunity for players to regroup, and the Dodgers ultimately won the game. Another famous delay took place during Game 7 of the 2019 ALCS between the Houston Astros and Washington Nationals, which was interrupted by rain in the 9th inning.

Rain delays can indeed lead to some memorable moments! One of my favorites is from the 2017 World Series, when the Cubs and Indians were delayed, and a group of Cubs players, including Kris Bryant and Anthony Rizzo, put on an impromptu show with fans in the stands, tossing baseballs around and interacting with the crowd. It was a fun, lighthearted way to keep the energy up during the wait.
