I think the US is definitely on track to become a soccer powerhouse, especially with the growing youth programs and more fans tuning into international leagues. To accelerate this, we need better youth development systems and more pathways for players to succeed globally. For MLS to compete with European leagues, investing in star talent and improving game quality is key.

Soccer in the United States has seen incredible growth, both in men’s and women’s leagues. The U.S. Women’s National Team (USWNT) has been a trailblazer, dominating international tournaments like the FIFA Women’s World Cup and inspiring a generation of young athletes. Their success highlights the country’s commitment to fostering female talent.

On the men’s side, MLS continues to expand, with international stars joining and youth academies flourishing. Though it’s still catching up globally, soccer’s rise in popularity, especially among younger audiences, is undeniable. With more investment in grassroots programs and infrastructure, the future looks bright for both genders, making soccer a sport to watch in the US.

I feel like everyone’s expectations are set too high. The belief this will be a perfect game and a perfect game on launch is absurd. Maybe try looking at it as the foundational game to build off of going further.

The key factors for accelerating this growth are continued investment in youth development, attracting international talent, and increasing visibility through broadcasting. MLS can compete with top European leagues by focusing on improving its level of play, fostering rivalries, and expanding its global presence through strategic partnerships and player signings.

In my opinion, soccer's growth in the US is undeniable. The rise of Major League Soccer, coupled with increased youth participation and global events like the World Cup hosted here, has ignited a passion for the sport. However, challenges remain. We need to ensure accessibility and affordability for all, especially in underserved communities, and continue to cultivate a strong domestic player pipeline to truly establish the US as a soccer powerhouse.

Soccer is growing in the U.S. through MLS expansion, rising youth participation, and increased international exposure. Stars like Christian Pulisic inspire young players, while events like the 2026 World Cup boost interest. Improved academies, European exports, and media coverage contribute to soccer’s steady rise as a major American sport.
